Built on Experience. Driven by the Dog.
Our training is shaped by many years of working dogs in demanding environments where clarity, consistency, and trust are essential. That operational background defines how The Rutland Tracking Association operates today. We focus on clear communication, structured training, and developing dogs that work calmly, accurately, and with purpose.
Tracking and trailing did not start as a business idea. It began as a practical way to keep our own dogs mentally engaged during quieter periods. The results were clear. The dogs became more settled, more focused, and more balanced. They were no longer just being exercised. They were thinking, problem-solving, and using their natural scenting ability in a controlled and meaningful way.
As the dogs progressed, other owners began asking questions. Interest grew naturally, and tracking and trailing quickly became one of the most in-demand aspects of our training.
Today, The Rutland Tracking Association delivers regular tracking, trailing, and scent detection training across Rutland and surrounding areas, including Leicestershire, Peterborough, and Lincolnshire. We run workshops and taster sessions throughout the year, designed to give handlers a clear, hands-on introduction with no pressure to commit. The best way to understand scent work is to experience it properly with your dog.
Handlers consistently tell us that tracking and trailing is one of the most rewarding activities they have shared with their dog. The teamwork, focus, and mental fulfilment it provides is difficult to match.
The Rutland Tracking Association exists to make high-quality scent work training accessible to more people. Whether you are new to tracking and trailing or looking to refine existing skills, you will find structured guidance, professional standards, and a supportive training environment.
Joining is about more than attending sessions. It is about giving your dog purpose, improving handling skills, and building a deeper working relationship based on trust and clarity.
★★★★★ Professional Trailing Training Near Stamford
“I’d previously attended trailing sessions with other local trainers, but I always felt unsure about what I was supposed to be doing and why. Training with Wayne at Rutland Tracking Association finally made everything click. His experience shows in how methodical and clear the training is, with no guesswork and no bad habits being allowed to develop. He’s approachable, but very direct, which I appreciated. My dog now works the trail calmly and with purpose, and I actually understand how to handle properly. This is a level above anything else I’ve experienced locally.”
